Acoustic Shadow: Is an artifact seen on ultrasound images. This is caused by an increase in reflected sound back to the transducer. On an image it presents as a black/grey area which is usually wedge shaped, posterior to the reflector which is most often hyperechoic.

It is commonly seen with calcified bodies such as a gallstone.
