As the problem of alcohol abuse increases in the United Kingdom,which as we know gives rise to many more cases of liver cirrhosis, I look at Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) - A liver cancer which is strongly associated with liver cirrhosis.

HCC is a primary tumour of the human liver (Lau, 2007). The liver is predominantly made up of parenchymal cells called hepatocytes (Tortora & Grabowski, 2005). HCC is defined as a primary malignancy of the Hepatocyte cells which most frequently, but not exclusively, arises in the setting of liver cirrhosis (Stuart, 2008) (Bruix, 2001) (Forner et al, 2006) (Giannini et al, 2004) (Llovet et al, 2003) (Habib, 2000).
