I have great pleasure in stating that the British Medical Ultrasound Society (BMUS) have given the ultrasound forum the thumbs up! They thought the site was great and have listed it in there links!

The British Medical Ultrasound Society (BMUS) is a professional society based in the United Kingdom for medical professional with an interest in medical ultrasound. Started in 1969 as an informal ultrasound group it took its present name in 1977 when it became affliated to the European Federation of Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology. Its status as a Registered Charity and Company Limited by guarantee was attained in 1984. The success of the Society stems to a great extent from its multi-disciplinary nature, its regular special topic meetings, its Annual Scientific meeting and its quarterly 'Journal'.

Hepatocellular Carcinoma PDF Print E-mail

As the problem of alcohol abuse increases in the United Kingdom, which as we know gives rise to many more cases of liver cirrhosis, I look at Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) - A liver cancer which is strongly associated with liver cirrhosis.

HCC is a primary tumour of the human liver (Lau, 2007). The liver is predominantly made up of parenchymal cells called hepatocytes (Tortora & Grabowski, 2005). HCC is defined as a primary malignancy of the Hepatocyte cells which most frequently, but not exclusively, arises in the setting of liver cirrhosis (Stuart, 2008) (Bruix, 2001) (Forner et al, 2006) (Giannini et al, 2004) (Llovet et al, 2003) (Habib, 2000).
